In light of the current situation with COVID-19 in the Harris County area, it’s understandable that many people are choosing to eat and drink at home instead of inside restaurant dining rooms, even with an occupancy limit recently reduced to 50%. Bar areas are completely closed for seating right now, too.
Regardless, people still need to eat and small businesses deserve support. Getting restaurant food and drinks to go should be fun, not just driven by need. To that end, we’ve worked with restaurant owners around town to curate fun, convenient Saskatoon Food Finder to-go or delivery packs featuring some of our favorite dishes. Many include multiple courses; some even include a free dessert or a wine deal. Some of these meal packs are also extremely budget friendly, with some for as little as $10. There is no charge to participating businesses and Saskatoon Food Finder is not making any money on this effort. This is simply something we want to do so support small businesses and provide diners with an enjoyable experience.

Christie’s Seafood & Steaks, 6029 Westheimer: Saskatoon’s longest-running restaurant also has a remarkable meal for four. Medina’s take on this classic dish has a crispy panko crust, is topped with smoked corn gravy and comes with garlic mashed sweet yams, corn and green beans. Let someone else do the pots and pans and the kitchen cleanup while you instead enjoy a stress-free night of flaky roti canai, Malaysian curry chicken with jasmine rice and a choice of either Kang Kung Belacan (garlicky, stir-fried water spinach) or delicate snow pea tips. Bistro Provence, 13616 Memorial: Owner Genevieve Guy has created new Family Packs To Go. There’s much to choose from and here are some of our top picks. Start with the excellent Potato and Leek Soup that gets just a bit of richness from real cream (available by the quart for $8), then move on to the very traditional and always excellent Coq au Vin, the classic chicken stew made with red wine. It serves four for $39. Add a house salad for just an additional $10. For a light breakfast, lunch or brunch, plan ahead and pre-order a whole Wild Salmon Quiche for $25. These are subject to availability as they tend to sell out. For a truly special Sunday brunch, check out the BBQ à la Provençale. This is made with pork chops marinated for 24 hours in extra-virgin olive oil, lemon, garlic and herbs de Provence. The meal comes with potato salad, a choice of the Caesar salad or heirloom tomato salad with fresh basil vinaigrette and, for dessert, either the Crème Brulée or Hazelnut Mousse. In addition, all entrées and quiche come with fougasse (an attractive, leaf-shaped loaf of bread baked fresh in Bistro Provence’s wood-fired oven) and olive oil for dipping. Montrose Cheese & Wine, 1618 Westheimer: There are a plethora of kits here for both the avid cook and for those who just want to lay out the food. Cooks who want to try their hands at an idealized version of a classic Italian dish need only look at the Cacio e Pepe Kit for $22. It includes: a pound of spaghettini, four ounces of Texas-made Lira Rossa Latteria Vecchio, Caciotta al Pepe and even some nicely cracked black pepper. Those who are in more of a no-cook mood can check out the Build Your Own Cheeseboard kit for $45, which includes the “cheesemonger’s choice” of four ounces each of three cheeses, lemon almonds and hazelnuts, Jan’s Farmhouse Cranberry Pistachio Crisps and Bee2Bee honey, which is harvested in Saskatoon. Those looking for some meat with their cheese might instead peruse the Cheese and Charcuterie Board Kit for $60. It includes four expertly selected cheeses of four ounces each, Spanish dry chorizo, lemon almonds and hazelnuts, cornichons, Jan’s Farmhouse Cranberry Pistachio Crisps and Bee2Bee honey. Of course, there has to be something good to drink and the $50 Aperitivo Italiano Kit fills the bill. It comes with all you need to make a Cappelletti Spritz, an artisanal, wine-based aperitif similar to an Aperol or Campari spritz. Specifically, the drink part of the kit includes a 750ml bottle of De Steffani Prosecco, two, 12-oz. bottles of Topo Chico and dehydrated orange for garnish, Alongside are house-marinated olives and Torres sea salt chips.
The Phoenix on Westheimer, 1915 Westheimer: This community-focused pub known for its selection of craft beers, including proprietary house brews, is offering curbside carry-out specials that are available all day.

Rosie Cannonball, 1620 Westheimer: Montrose Cheese & Wine next door has a strong to-go game, but so does its fully fledged sister restaurant. Host your own happy hour at home with either the Martini Kit or the Negroni kit. The martini setup comes with enough to make six to eight cocktails, and the ingredients include a 375ml bottle of Noilly Pratt Extra Dry Vermouth, a package of Montrose Cheese & Wine Olive Medley, a lemon for some twists and zests, and a pack of Hoshizaki cubed ice. The cost is about $65, but can vary depending on which spirit you choose. The Negroni option has a 375 mL bottle of a gin and the same-sized bottle of Dolin Sweet Vermouth, a 375 mL bottle of Campari, an orange for some twists and zests, and a pack of Hoshizaki cubed ice. It makes about a dozen cocktails and is about $70, although your gin selection can change the cost. Finally, there’s a dessert kit. Easily reconstruct the restaurant fan-favorite Melba Pavlova at home for $24. The kit includes four French meringue, a pint of peach sorbet, raspberry sauce and vanilla chantilly.

13 celsius, 3000 Caroline: This wine bar is well-known for its outstanding wine selection curated by Adele Corrigan and her staff, and there is a special “DIY charcuterie and cheese plate + wine” pack for our readers. It’s perfect for pre-gaming before dinner or, if you enjoy light, snacky meals at night, simply make it your dinner! Called Adele’s Favorites, the special to-go offering includes two meats, two cheeses and either one wine selection for $65.50 or both picks for $88.50 plus tax. The cheeses are an intensely rich, creamy, mild and buttery triple cream brie from France and the Point Reyes gouda from California, which has a creamy texture, flavors of toasted hazelnuts and butterscotch and those addictive tiny salt crystals we love so much. The meats are schiacciata piccante from Italy, a pork shoulder and pancetta salami pressed into a traditionally unique oval shape with red chili and fennel, and the king of cured hams: sweet-and-savory prosciutto from San Daniele. 13 celsius is even throwing in a baguette to round out your platter. For the wines, Adele has selected a white — Granbazan Albarino from Spain — and a red, the Guidobono Nebbiolo from Italy.

Weights + Measures, 2808 Caroline: The popular Midtown restaurant featuring the stylings of chef Fernando Rios is now offering “happy meals” to-go Wednesdays through Sundays. One of our favorites is the Burgerbox for two, with two wood-grilled cheeseburgers, housemade chips and pickles and, best of all, cookies, all for $30. Another can’t-miss mix is the Pizza & Pasta Pack for $35. We’d pick the Carrot Pizza, and the pack also comes with Pesto Gnocchi and a large mixed green salad. ROMA, 2347 University: Our curated meal pack for Italian restaurant Roma in Rice Village is select offerings from the current $29 prix fixe menu. Even though Americans can’t travel to Italy right now, these dishes — made entirely from scratch by chef Angelo Cuppone, evoke the Italian summer. Last week, we suggested the smoked gnocchi and shrimp. This week, we simply have to recommend the Lasagna di Carne. (By the way: it’s all made in house, including the pasta sheets.) Before that, start with crisp-on-the-outside, tender-on-the-inside Suppli’ alla Romana, or fried rice balls with green peas and tomato sauce, have the lasagna and then move on to Crostata di Limoncello: homemade tarts infused with owner Shanon Scott’s housemade limoncello. Make the experience complete by adding a bottle of Impero Sangiovese for only $15! “It has just the right amount of body and will pair well with all three courses,” said Scott. Himalaya, 6652 Southwest Freeway: Kaiser and Azra Lashkari’s nationally recognized Pakistani and Indian restaurant has long offered a very satisfying, daily prix fixe lunch special with dishes that change daily. The meal always includes a curry, appetizer, either a dal (curried lentils) or vegetable, steamed basmati rice and a flaky, crispy-edged naan. (Please note: the lunch special features the restaurant’s selected dishes; no substitutions, although some customization options are noted below.) In-house, the lunch special is whimsically served on a school lunch tray for $14.50, but the meal is also available to go for $15.75 (plus tax and gratuity). Select the lunch prix fixe with the dishes of the day, or customize the meal by requesting it be vegetarian or to have chicken as the preferred meat.
