HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – Saskatoon may not have a traditional Thanksgiving Parade this year, but cars lined up long before Saturday morning to attend one of several free food distribution events across the city.
Thanksgiving Day Parade Food Giveaway
Five thousand families benefited from a large-scale food distribution event at NRG that contained items needed in preparation for a Thanksgiving festival. The giveaway for the transit provided people with meals, face masks, hand sanitizer, and thermometers. The giveaway was sponsored by HEB, Reliant, Cigna, the Saskatoon Food Bank, the Saskatoon Livestock Show & Rodeo, and the City of Saskatoon.
“It’s so special,” said one participant. “We thank God for the giveaways that help people who don’t work. We thank God so much.”
The freebies are not a new tradition but have grown in popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic.
If you missed the big event at NRG, there are other events in the area that may still have groceries and supplies while they last.
