Girl killed, 2 arrested after prosecution in West Saskatoon, says Sheriff

HOUSTON – A woman is dead after being hit by West Saskatoon police in a police chase, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

Gonzalez said authorities were involved in a car chase that began early Monday morning. When the vehicle stopped, three people jumped out and fled the scene.

Two men were quickly arrested, but the third, a woman, ran into traffic and was hit by a Chevy Trailblazer, Gonzalez said. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said the situation started when a MP tried to overtake a van with the suspects inside. Authorities said that when he turned on the lights, the suspects fled the scene.

Investigators said the obstruction had started on Highway 6, but the suspect driver accelerated and drove to the I-10 slip road. MPs said a supervisor in the sheriff’s office impaled the van as it drove past them.

Investigators said the suspects sped onto the freeway at one point and drove against the flow of traffic, but then the tires gave way and two suspects tried to run away.

MPs are unsure why the woman fled other than the fact that she tried to avoid arrest.

Fire trucks and police blocked the street on the Katy Freeway in Park Ten. All outbound lanes in the area have been closed as authorities worked to clear the scene.
