Individual of Curiosity in Demise of Saskatoon Police Division Sgt. Sean Rios was arrested with out cost
A person interested in the death of Saskatoon Police Sergeant Sean Rios was arrested Monday in connection with unrelated driving during a drunken charge.
Jason Vasquez, 24, has been wanted since November when investigators linked him to a man accused of killing the off duty sergeant during a possible road collision. He was spotted on surveillance videos with Robert Soliz – charged with murdering Rios’ death – moments after the fatal shooting, but police have stopped charging him with a crime.
Court records show Vasquez was arrested on Monday around 5 p.m. in connection with driving in 2019 in a drunk case. His bailout was revoked in January for failing to appear in court and his lawyer withdrew from his case in October for that reason.
A judge set Vasquez’s bail at $ 3,000 during a hearing on a possible cause. The Harris District Attorney’s Office declined a personal loan but did not issue an opinion on the bail. The public defender applied for a $ 100 loan.
A bail review hearing is scheduled for later Tuesday in Harris County Criminal Court in Act No. 6.
Soliz was believed to have shot and killed Rios during a gun battle near the Cactus King Nursery along Interstate 45. The fatally wounded sergeant stumbled to the nearby Taj Inn & Suites and died in the front office.
