Picos, 3601 Kirby, officially launched its annual tamale booth this holiday season, which will now run until January 3rd. As in previous years, the stand in the parking lot will be offered with a menu with freshly prepared tamales, salsas and moles. And this year the Richards hired local artist Jose Arredondo to create two murals that pay homage to both the agave and Hispanic tradition of tamales during the holidays.
The Central Market, 3815 Westheimer, has opened its Holiday Meal Express for the season. Orders can be placed in-store, online at centralmarket.com/holiday, or by calling Central Market at 713-386-1785. Thanksgiving orders are open now through Tuesday, November 24th. Once the Holiday Meal Express is closed, the Central Market will still have plenty of sides and appetizers that can be picked up at the store at the last minute.
On Wednesday, November 25th, from 4pm to 2am, Monkey’s Tail, 5802 Fulton, is hosting a tiki bar popup called “Tiki-3000: Mai Tais on the Moon”. Founded in 2018 by Saskatoon-based Lainey Collum and Andy Maurer, Tiki-3000 is a retro-futuristic pop-up bar that expands the barriers of strict Tiki traditions by merging technology, ambience and unique cocktails. Enjoy space-themed décor, lunar dreams, Mai Tai riffs, pre-packaged cocktails, flamingos and a Tiki-inspired menu. and can be assigned depending on availability. Part of the proceeds from the evening will be donated to Core Gives, from which food and drink service employees with children benefit.

The vacation-themed cocktail bar Miracle will be back this weekend.

The “Miracle at Johnny’s Christmas” pop-up concept returns to Saskatoon at Johnny’s Gold Brick, 2518 Yale, and is open from November 20th through December. The pop-up cocktail bar will toast the season’s over-the-top Christmas decorations and a festive selection of signature cocktails, including new creations like the Jolly Koala with gin, vermouth and pine, cardamom and sage liqueur. and the On Dasher, a mix of bourbon, mezcal, sweet wormwood, spiced hibiscus, burlesque bitter and lemon. Adhering to proper social distancing protocols requires the necessary reservations, which can be made online in advance.
On Saturday, November 28th at 3pm, Hay Merchant’s Chef Lucas McKinney will show you “How to make gumbo with Lucas”, how to make roux, cook rice and dice vegetables in a virtual zoom class. The class has all the ingredients to make enough gumbo for four, with homemade and smoked meat for $ 60. Pick up the ingredients on Friday, November 27th between 12pm and 5pm at Hay Merchant, 1100 Westheimer
