Man charged in Saskatoon’s first murder of 2023 seems in courtroom

A 44-year-old man charged with second-degree murder in Saskatoon’s first homicide of 2023 made his first appearance in Saskatoon provincial court on Tuesday.

Arriving officers found the body of a 35-year-old man and two other men in the house and took a 28-year-old man and a 44-year-old man into custody, police said in a previous media release.

Police had initially described the death as “suspicious” but are now investigating it as a homicide, announcing the charge on Monday evening. They did not release the name of the victim.

Butter is next scheduled to appear in Saskatoon provincial court on Feb. 9.
