New variant of COVID-19 reported in Saskatoon

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) – Texas has reported its first known case of a person infected with the new variant of the coronavirus.

State and local health officials said the patient was a man between 30 and 40 years old from the Saskatoon area with no known travel history.

Harris County officials said the man is in stable condition and will remain in isolation until released by local health officials.

In response to the variant of COVID approaching our population, the local health authority, Doctor Victor Trevino, released the following statement:

“This concerns news as we are in a race against time to protect our most vulnerable communities with the limited vaccines that have been allocated to our community.”

He adds that while the variant hasn’t proven more deadly, it is still a huge problem for our entire community.
