Saskatoon meals co-op bringing contemporary produce to downtown core

For years, people living in Saskatoon’s downtown core have had a difficult time getting access to fresh produce. Now, one group is looking to change that.

The City Centre Food Cooperative is holding a community food market today at the Saskatoon Community Service Village (506 25th St. E.).

The co-op was formed when the Shop Easy grocery store in Saskatoon’s City Park neighbourhood closed last year.

The closure left a large section of Saskatoon without a grocery store within walking distance.

Food security group CHEP Good Food Inc. will be supplying the fruit that will be sold.

The group will be selling fresh fruit and vegetables from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The market will be cash only.
