SHA declares COVID-19 outbreak at Saskatoon Meals Financial institution after three workers check optimistic
The Saskatchewan Health Authority has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at the Saskatoon Food Bank.
This means the agency’s building on Avenue C South will remain closed until at least Friday, said executive director Laurie O’Connor.
It closed Monday after two staff members tested positive for the virus on the weekend. Another staffer was already off due to the virus.
According to the health authority, “in non-household settings, an outbreak is confirmed when two or more people test positive for COVID-19.”
It adds that the declaration is not necessarily an indicator of risk to the public. Rather, it focuses the response.
Cleaners are busy sanitizing the building and all staff are now getting tested.
The pre-packaged and canned goods on site should be all right, O’Connor said.
“We want to reassure the public that we will do everything possible to reopen quickly and safely and ensure that our communication is timely and transparent,” she said.
