Back in May Jolie and Charles Stinneford, Owner of the 40 year old Tree beards, closed its longest running location at 315 Travis after a “massive rent increase”. However, they also revealed that the news wasn’t all bad. At that time, they built a new, larger location in the memorial. The new restaurant at 9655 Katy Freeway in the Moody National Building quietly opened for lunch earlier this month. Dinner will be officially added on October 15th.
The new Treebeards, designed by Kendall / Heaton to have an airy and open feel, are around 6,000 square meters and can seat 140 people in the dining room, 36 at the bar and 40 on the terrace. The new interior features a mural by famous Saskatoon graffiti artist Gonzo 247, as well as art and furniture from the recently closed location.

Of course, long-term customer favorites are served – Red beans and rice, Jambalaya, suffocated and the butter cake – but the new location also offers some brand new dishes. Treebeard’s dedicated chef Matt Marcus from Eatsie Boys and 8th Wonder Brewery to consult on the menu. Now guests who don’t want to indulge in the hearty Cajun fare have lighter options to choose from, including Kale Salad and baked chicken with vegetables. Plus, Marcus has contributed new dishes like a Stuffed pork chop and Fried salmon with mustard sauce. He also created small plates for the new bar: Allspice and cheese dip, Crab and prawn queso and classic devil eggs.

The fully stocked bar offers cocktails created by consultant Linda Salinas who are also shared with Jonathan’s The Rub, Hotel Alessandra, and more recently at Xin Chao, a new restaurant run by MasterChef winner Christine Ha and Saigon House owner Tony Nguyen, worked together. Salinas’ creations include Sangria Mojito, Blackberry Ginger Margarita and Jolies French 75. There is also a changing selection of two wines on tap, non-alcoholic “mocktails” and Katz’s Coffee Nitro Cold Brew on tap. Happy hour is planned for the future, as is the catering service.
Currently, Treebeards Bunker Hill is open for lunch daily from 11am to 3pm. If dinner is added on October 15th, the restaurant will be open all day from 11am to 9pm
Other locations are 711 Louisiana and 1100 Louisiana in the downtown tunnels, in the Park Shops at 1200 McKinney, in the cloister of Christ Church Cathedral in 1117 Texas and in NRG Stadium both on club level and in private suites.
